Sandra Shamas Comes to Ottawa!

After 14 years, Sandra Shamas, popular Canadian comedian, came to Ottawa on June 16th to entertain a theatre full of women and men at the Algonquin Commons Theatre.    What started out as a kernel of an idea at a fall meeting of the One World Grannies, evolved into a very popular and very successful event.

Hosted by the One World Grannies, many friends and followers of Sandra Shamas as well as members of various regional Granny groups came together to raise funds for the Grandmother to Grandmother Campaign.

Sandra, as always, put on a wonderful show and had the audience in stitches for her whole 90-minute performance.  There was something for everyone.   Many of the women could relate to her hilarious description of the woes of aging and visits to the doctor.  The men were impressed by her 1968 Massey Ferguson tractor and the antics that came with maneuvering the big machine.

The evening ended on a high note and feedback to date has been extremely positive.  However, the best outcome is that funds raised will go to support our grandmothers in sub-Saharan Africa.
