Congratulations to the Stories 2024 team! They exceeded their target of 150 guests who were treated to a memorable evening. The Moonlighters, a musical ensemble organized by members of the Ottawa StoryTellers, mesmerized the audience for the first hour with mixes of harp, percussion, and keyboard, interspersed with moon-themed vocal pieces and stories. The group, comprising Gail Anglin, Susan Sweeney Hermon, Jack Pyl, and Anne Hurley and their sound crew generously donated their time and talent.`
One World Granny Peggy Edwards wound up the evening by recounting her conversation under the Zimbabwe/Eswatini moon with the African activist grandmother who had organized a massive gathering of grandmothers. Peggy concluded her story with the wise African adage: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” And how well that sums up our purpose and the relationship we have with our African sisters!
Although the amount we will send to the Grandmothers Campaign is still being tweaked, it is likely to be in the range of $8,500. Our thanks to all who contributed: the 2024 Lead Sponsors Joni Campbell Royal LePage Real Estate, AMICA the Glebe, and Supporting Sponsor Watson’s Pharmacy and Compounding Centre, the donors of our door prizes and gifts to performers The National Gallery of Canada, The National Arts Centre, Bridgehead on Beechwood, Books on Beechwood, Ottawa StoryTellers, and Metro Beechwood for donating the cost of fruit for the Sangria.
The evening could not have been a success without the support of dozens of volunteers from the Unitarian GoGos and One World Grannies, including One World Grannies’ Soap Belle Laura Vernon and award-winning photographer, Maureen Murphy. Thank you all! Here are a few of Maureen’s photos with MORE on her website.
