Ideas for March 8 International Women’s Day

The world comes together for International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8th each year to celebrate women’s achievements, reinforce commitment to gender equality, and rally for change.  GRAN has some ideas about how we can honour this day.

Imagine a gender equal world

Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge gender equality. Collectively we can all accelerate action. – International Women’s Day 2025

The world comes together for International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8th each year to celebrate women’s achievements, reinforce commitment to gender equality, and rally for change. IWD also provides a key opportunity to support women-focused nonprofit organizations and help elevate their visibility. We hope you will mark International Women’s Day this Saturday in a way that is meaningful to you.

We would like to highlight the following webinars being held this week in the run-up to International Women’s Day:

  • Greenpeace Africa: Women Leading Climate Justice — Thursday, March 6, 11:00 a.m. ET — Women across Africa have been at the forefront of climate justice movements, yet their contributions are often overlooked. This webinar will spotlight stories, challenges, and innovative approaches from female climate leaders in Africa. Keynote speaker, Dr. Oulie Keita, Executive Director of Greenpeace Africa, will be joined by other climate leaders from nonprofits across Africa to discuss why female voices are essential in the fight for our planet – and how we can support and join the women doing this work every day.  Click here to register.
  • Defending Women’s Rights in Times of Uncertainty: A Conversation with Women’s Rights Champions in Kenya and Nepal — FRIDAY, March 7, 8:30 a.m. ET — This webinar, hosted by the Coady Institute, features guest speakers Salome Nduta, Founder of the Women Human Rights Defenders Hub (Kenya), and Jaya Luintel, Founder of The Story Kitchen (Nepal) as they discuss strategies and innovations on defending women’s human rights in times of local and global uncertainty. Click here to register.

You may also wish to visit the International Women’s Day website. The organizers have provided many ways for us to show our support for women’s equality, among them a variety of images for sharing on social media and “signature” banners such as the one below to use in emails. This year, we are also being encouraged to “support the supporters” by donating and raising funds for women-focused non-profit organizations.

Happy International Women’s Day, GRANs!  We celebrate all the ways you advocate and contribute to gender equality.
