The Panzi Hospital in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, led by Nobel-prize winner Dr. Denis Mukwege and his staff, assists survivors of violence in three ways: through medical care, through psychosocial services, and with legal advice. In the past 20 years, the Panzi staff have cared for more than 50,000 survivors of sexual violence. The Panzi Hospital also runs 96 support groups that provide income-generation, savings and loans initiatives, and psychosocial support for women who have experienced sexual and gender-based violence, their families, and communities.
